BCUG Web Photo Gallery / Cold War Protection -- John Corbett

In John's own words:

"I was a radar operator in the Air Force (North American Air Defense Command.)

I took this shot in 1959 when I was stationed in the Arctic Circle at the 926 AC&WRON (Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron) in Frobisher Bay on Baffin Island.   Baffin is a large island in Canada's northwest territory between Labrador and Greenland. We were part of the chain of radar installations stretching from Greenland to the Aleutian Islands.

The fuzziness around the radomes is the heat emanating from them. It was cold up there!"
