Bill Silverman

The History of 3D Photography
and its Modern Applications

MEETING DATE:

July 17,2009

As a last minute fill-in, Bill Silverman has agreed to do a presentation for our July general meeting. Luckily he has a presentation that he gave to the Staten Island Camera Club in Feb 2009. The topic was,...well if you know Bill (the current facilitator for the graphics workshop, and member of BCUG for over 14 years)...you would guess that it had something to do with ProShow Producer or 3D photography, and you'd be correct on both counts.

The topic was 3D photography and the content was presented as a slideshow using ProShow Producer. The program covers some history of 3D photography, from the earliest beginnings to the miracle of modern technology's 3D movies being shown in movie theaters with great and greater frequency. As a former high school teacher of chemisrty and physics, Bill will also be including a few mini-science lessons and demonstrations to help understand the science behind some of the techniques used to create the feeling of a 3D dimensional world generated on a two dimensional surface.

Topics also included will be the Pulfrich effect, using your own digital camera and free software to create great anaglyphs (3D images requiring colored glasses for viewing), an introduction to 2D to 3D conversions, great websites for downloading free anaglyphs from the internet, Yahoo 3D interest groups, and more.

The opportunity to purchase cyan/magenta glasses for your own use as well as for sharing with friends and family will be available, with the proceeds from the sale going to enhance the BCUG treasury. With the free software that Bill will provide links to and with your sets of glasses you will be able to introduce your grandchildren and others to a wonderful interest which can expand their horizons.

Expect there to also be one or two 3D slideshows besides the main presentation. This should be a very entertaining and enjoyable evening that you should make every effort to attend. I assure you you won't be disappointed.
