About the presentation

Virtualization is the abstraction of computing resources, and can be divided into three components, platform, application and desktop. Platform virtualization generally refers to full virtualization, where the entire server operating system runs on a hypervisor. Application virtualization refers to the hosting of applications on a shared system. In this presentation Sam will focus on desktop virtualization, which is porting of desktops to server platform hardware.

Desktop virtualization is picking up a lot of steam. Gartner estimates that by 2012 over 80% of desktops will be virtualized. There are many benefits of desktops virtualization, such as centralized management, ease of use of deployment, reduced computing resources consumption, all resulting in significant cost savings for the end user.
