"GPS Secrets"

There is more to a GPS than a pleasant voice telling you to turn right on Cedar Street , and showing a color display of adjacent ramps and intersections. Cass in his presentation will talk about the technical implementation of the current GPS systems, how the user location is derived from precise atomic clocks on satellites and a non-precise clock in your GPS receiver, how to capture and send data to your GPS, and how to modify its built in vocabulary. Cass will also discuss privacy issues, secret keys, use of a GPS for hiking and Geocaching and much more.

 
Cass is an electrical engineer, a long time hobbyist, author of several books on computer programming, modems and programmable calculators. He has also written many  project articles in popular electronics magazines. Cass and  Ruth  are joint recipients of the 2005 Hobbyist of the Year award from the Amateur Computer Group of New Jersey . Cass and Ruth are members of BCUG nearly since its formation. Cass is a graduate of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and worked at Bell Labs and Unisys.
