Mike Austin

Exciting New Products from Microsoft

MEETING DATE: May 17, 2013
by Jo Grazide

For some odd reason, I had thought that announcing our May speaker, who happens to be our very own Mike Austin, would be a no-brainer.  Turns out, I had a lot to think about, because I want to present Mike's talk as fresh and new, despite the fact that he has been a regular presenter at recent Windows Workshops.  But the challenge has been overcome, and I am able to describe our May meeting as one that is not to be missed, whether you have been to one of his workshops or not.

Mike will show us some of the newest innovative products from Microsoft.  Although we were given an overview at a previous meeting, there is still much to learn.  Actually, many of us have probably already started using Windows 8, now widely available and mainstream.  Mike will talk about the Windows upgrade process and compatibility issues.  Perhaps you want to, like me, hook up a Windows 8 tablet to your existing monitor, printer, and keyboard.  Then what about compatibility?  Many of us remember older operating systems (OS's) that wouldn't run printers or scanners despite all the effort we put in, because of this.

Another great product from Microsoft is Office 365.  This is a new service available online, and payable yearly.  If you're using multiple computers, this may be your solution.  Want to know more?  Come and find out.  Mike can clear up any questions we may have about this.

Just this week, I ventured into Staples and prominently displayed side by side were the Surface Pro and Surface laptops.  The future has arrived, and we are glad that Mike will be available at our general meeting to guide us and to clarify our options.  I'm looking forward to using a touchscreen myself, in my next devices.

Join us for Windows 8, Microsoft Surface and Office 365.
