Two people with very personal and intimate association with computers, artificial intelligence, business and society have a conversation intended to enhance our understanding of the impact computers and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are having on us and our world.

About the speakers

Daniel Huttenlocher is the inaugural dean of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing. Previously he helped found Cornell Tech, the digital technology oriented graduate school created by Cornell University in New York City and served as its first Dean and Vice Provost. His research and teaching have been recognized by several awards including ACM Fellow and CASE Professor of the Year. Huttenlocher's main research interests are in computer vision, social media, and understanding AI.

Eric Schmidt is an American businessman and software engineer known for being the CEO of Google from 2001 to 2011, executive chairman of Google from 2011 to 2015, executive chairman of Alphabet Inc. from 2015 to 2017, and technical advisor at Alphabet from 2017 to 2020.

As an intern at Bell Labs, Schmidt in 1975 was co-author of Lex, a software program to generate lexical analyzers for the Unix computer operating system. From 1997 to 2001, he was chief executive officer (CEO) of Novell. He has served on various other boards in academia and industry, including the boards of trustees for Carnegie Mellon University, Apple, Princeton University, and Mayo Clinic.

As of October 2021, Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranked Schmidt as the 55th-richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $26.8 billion.
